Hill Climb Racing is a landmark 2D physics-based driving game developed and published by Finnish studio Fingersoft. You control amateur racer Newton "Bill" Newton as he navigates treacherous, procedurally challenging hilly terrains in quirky vehicles.
Released in 2012, Hill Climb Racing is renowned for its simple yet addictive gameplay emphasizing precise throttle and brake control to maintain balance, avoid flips (protecting Bill's fragile neck), manage fuel, and perform stunts for coins used in upgrades and unlocks.
Hill Climb Racing leads you into endless single-player runs across "Climb Canyon" stages like Countryside, Desert, Highway, Moon, and Mega variants, collecting coins/diamonds/gas while conquering slopes, jumps, and hazards.
Your main goal is to drive as far as possible without flipping your vehicle or running out of fuel. You’ll control your car using only two key actions: accelerate (right pedal) and brake (left pedal). However, the physics system ensures that every movement matters. Pressing accelerate too hard can send you flipping backward, while braking at the wrong time can halt your momentum on steep slopes.
Along the way, you’ll collect coins scattered on the track. These coins are essential for unlocking new vehicles and upgrading important stats such as engine power, tires, suspension, and 4WD. There are up to 30 vehicles (e.g., Hill Climber, Dirt Bike, Tank, UFO, Carantula, Super Hill Climber) for realistic experiences. Upgrades help you tackle advanced maps with sharper hills, deeper valleys, and unpredictable surface curves.
Fuel cans appear throughout each track, and grabbing them in time is crucial. Running out of fuel ends your run instantly, so balancing speed with fuel efficiency becomes part of the strategy.
